Laura Matthys (Maher)

Thank you Lisa for the information about Teddy. I have numerous memories of him as we went through grade, junior, and high school together. When I was telling my mom about his passing, she too remembered him and reminded me about my sister getting a "pink slip" because she slugged him!! It's so hard to hear of our classmates passing. Let your daughter know how so many of us have great memories of her father!

By the way, Connie Hardman, you are awfully nice to make such a sweet comment (Did you get the check I sent you!?!)

Pictures can hide a lot! As can hair color! I'm mostly grey in the crown, have to wear prescription readers almost constantly, the skin around my knees and elbows creases and hangs (as does a lot of other skin - I'm still to chicken to botox), and what's with the peach fuzz on the face?? I really think someone ought to worn us about all the strange little bodily changes that occur after about 44!!! Am I right ladies???? But hey, as long as we have healthy bodies, not perfect ones, we are blessed!

By the way, does anyone know the whereabouts of Larry Wilson? Just curious.....I'd love to hear about him.

Larry and his wife Robin lived on our street in McNary Estates....they've moved away about 2 years ago not sure where they went. He looks pretty much the same!

Laura's right about the body after age 44. I never quite understood what the "golden years" really meant until now: it takes a lot of gold to start getting through the years; hair color, wrinkle cream, waxing, etc.

Thanks Colleen for the update! Larry, aloang with a mutual friend, and I met up here in Portland after he didn't make the last reunion and I've been so curious! I remember being surprised when I saw him; no fro (in fact, I think he was bald), and I remembered him as much taller!! Funny how our perception changes! Teachers were so old and we were all so mature! Yeah right, my one fateful night with Tequila before a football game as a sophomore was so mature! Randy Cambell and Charlotte Carlson (year older) somehow avoiding the cops and getting me to Randy's house where I met his parents for the first time (in between passing out and throwing up). And then his mom having to call my Dad (a policeman) to come pick me up!! To this day I cannot drink Tequila or anything similiar!

Hi to all! I guess I'm the one who was the California transplant and didnt go to grade school in Salem but in Silverton. We moved to Salem the second semester of 7th grade when I landed at Whiteaker! I too didn't realize how many classmates we have lost over the years..wow. Makes you think to live every day you have to the fullest.

I'm excited to see all of you at the reunion and do some catching up. My memories of McNary are forever etched in my mind...!

See you soon, Susan

This is in response to Dan Parker's request for info on Larry Marcy's passing. (I would have sent this sooner, but I just discovered the message forum.)

Larry passed away in October, 2004 from a massive stroke. He was living near Laurelhurst park in Portland and working for Portland Public Schools. We spent a lot of time together in our late 20's and early 30's. Then marriage and kids (mine, not his) slowed that down even though we lived about 3 miles apart. His memorial service was packed with friends from high school, college and work. He made friends everywhere he went. I too remember his mother. The kind of mother who drives you nuts as a kid, but when you grow up you wish every mother was just like her. ("Larry you need a sweater", "Larry, you kids be careful"). Anyway, that's what happened to Larry. See you at the reunion.

Thank you Jim. I had a great encounter with Larry at our 20 reunion and was so shocked to see he had passed away.

Lisa,

Thank you so much for the information about Teddy. I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I had the pleasure of chatting with Dave Rittenhouse the other day and although we spoke about Teddy we didn't know what had happened. It was wonderful to hear about your daughter.

Emme Demmendal

Hi guys! Some greetings an well wishes for the upcoming reunion. I can't make it, just bought a home last year (just in time, I guess...)
Though I was only with you for one year as an exchange student, my time at McNary was unforgettable. Laura, Wendy, Linda, Susan, Susan, Cindy, Peggy, Peggy, Dan, Dave, Jeff, I remember you well!
And what an incredible task Peggy to digitize all of our senior pics!
I will add this 'before' pic at Classmates as well.
Cheers to all, I hope you have a 'wild and crazy' time...

Jim,

You know what I remember most about Larry's memorial service? It was finding out all of the donations he made to school projects and programs insisting that his name was kept anonymous as the donor.

That's a true gift... No recognition, just the personal knowledge that you helped someone. He was an amazing guy!

Hi everyone!
It has been...10 years! Yikes! I read we are to have a great DJ at the party and it got me to thinking about dancing back in the day! Wow, we really thought we were hot back then! I can't wait to see us dancing now. I bet were even hotter now! Not just with hot flashes either!(LOL, chuckle, snort)
Actually, I am hoping that others, like myself have taken up ballroom and/or swing dancing. Is that a sign of getting old? Eh, no matter, I have a blast. If there are others who have discovered the joy of dance, let's get fired up and talk about it!!

Hi Rosemary! Glad to hear your game to dance! Dancing is something I do for myself. Freestyling is just as much fun! I will look forward to boogie'n with you.

Hi Linda
In response to your posting and indicating that you were drawing a blank...I am right there with ya girl. I recognize you from your photo. though, I don't recall any specific encounters. (If you do, I hope I was nice,(LOL) if not I am sorry and promise to be at the reunion.)
I was pondering about how many people from our class went to the various Junior high/middle schools. I went to Waldo, like you. I'm curious about the number because I think it has a lot to do with why "I" am not recognizing people by name and in some cases by their photo.
I am thinking number of years in school together, equals better recognition in late forties...now I am really being silly! I am serious though, about the theory! Are you with me? My pereption is that their are more from Whitaker than Waldo. Hence, fewer number of years...
does anybody have the statistics from McNary?

In any case, I look forward to seeing you again. And everyone who went to Whitaker ;)

Janie asked me if there was a dress code for tomorrow night. So I checked the announcement and it says "dress: cocktail". Should I tell her martini or margarita? :)

Hi guys, after facing immense pressure from jory I have decided to show up tonight. I paid via pay-pal so won't have an actual ticket in had. Hope that won't be a problem...

Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Hey everybody, what a great reunion. So many faces and names I had not thought about for 30 years, I had to burn a few layers of dirt off the neurons to pull some of the names out. With few exceptions, I did not recognize anybody, until I would squint at the name tag and look at the pictures. Not being in the main social activities at school, I probably recognized more people than they me, but oh well. Not until the next day, after looking through the yearbook again, did I totally remember some folks. Missed seeing some folks who I really did want to see (Sandie, Tammy, Sue, Ken,...); don't know if I just did not recognize you from across the room, or you did not show up after all?

To those I did remember right off (Keith, Gay, Peggy, Pat, Craig, Edie, ...), it was great seeing you again. Hopefully it won't be another 30 years, else my memory will be totally lost!

Looks like my next task is to open up a facebook, and start bugging people to see where they are, and what they are up to.

Thanks again Peggy (et al) for the great reunion!

One more thought, I see the link of who was going to attend is gone. Is it possible to post a link with the names of everybody who was able to make it? It would be fun to scroll down through the names with yearbook in hand.

There was one person I spent some time taling with, I thought your name was Don, but I can't find you in the yearbook. I know I know you, just need the picture from 79 to put a face with the name. You drove the red Mustang? How'd I miss your name already?

Hey Brad! I'm sorry I didn't get to say hello! I remember you so very well but must not have recognized you last night!! I'll see you at the next one!!

Thanks you guys, I enjoyed doing the reunion, it gave me a good project to keep me busy. Now I need to find something else to do!!

Brad, I have updated the RSVP list from memory but will go back later and look at the paperwork to see if I missed any.
